LOUD NOISES!

We’ll start off with some of the big story lines, because that’s the way this thing works.

Cortland and Dickinson. Still undefeated? Yes, they are. In a season with tons of upsets, lots of ups and downs, and new rules, this is impressive.

One loss teams remaining: Kean, Centenary (NJ), and Keuka.

Who’s HOT Right Now? RIT has two losses, but sits atop the LaxPower Power Rankings, followed closely by Salisbury, Cortland, and Dickinson, in that order. Cabrini still sits in the Top 10 and is looking like a solid dark horse. Widener and York are also quickly becoming teams to watch the rest of the way.

Is the NESCAC down in 2013? Normally, the ‘CAC is the strongest conference in D3 from top to bottom, but this year the conference has seen a rash of OOC losses, some of them surprising. Tufts, Conn, Bates, Colby, Williams, and Bowdoin all have one OOC loss. Amherst had two. Trinity has three. Wesleyan, Hamilton, and Middlebury have only lost to NESCAC foes. Maybe the NESCAC isn’t down overall… but the bottom of the conference is struggling more than in years past, and wins are tighter than ever. Maybe the rest of D3 has just caught up?

Meaningful Scores

Sewannee 13 – Hendrix 5 I am pretty sure this means that Sewannee, Centre, and Berry all finish with one loss in the Southern Conference. It does? Good, I still have a grip on reality. Centre has the best overall record, at 10-2, while Sewannee is 11-3, and Hendrix is 11-4. Love seeing how competitive this conference is right away.

Goucher 11 – Catholic 10 (OT) After topping Williams, I thought Catholic might knock off at least one more quality team, and it almost happened inside the Landmark. Catholic has had some great games with Goucher over the last couple of years, but this was the tightest contest I can remember. Maybe 2014 will be the year the Cardinals break through?

Bowdoin 6 – Wesleyan 5 (OT) Another low scoring Wesleyan loss. If the offense takes off, the Cardinals will be dangerous in the playoffs. Bowdoin needed this win after a tough loss, and it must have been nice to get the W in front of so many lacrosse alumni. I will use the Thumper rule when talking about the Bowdoin webcast.

York 11 – Mary Washington 9 Salisbury is still the top dog in the Capital, but York, MW, St. Mary’s, and even Frostburg State are all looking to make moves. York looks like the second best right now behind SU, but it’s tight. Who will be the next Stevenson of out the CAC?

Otterbein 12 – Whittier 3 I keep thinking Whittier is going to make an epic comeback. Maybe I should put my money on Otterbein! Impressive win. Did you know Otterbein (OH) is 8-4 right now and competing with NCAC teams? Now you do.

Roanoke 12 – Hampden-Sydney 11 Phew. No RoaChoke posts from Clay this week. In my book, a win is a win!

Dickinson 15 – WAC 10 Don’t count Washington College out just year, but definitely count Dickinson as IN… to the tournament at the very least, but also probably as a contending favorite. Red Devils look good… really good. And to think, I almost worked there, but lost the job to Jack Sandler from Bates, who was a great choice. Little personal tidbit for you.

Ithaca 11 – St. John Fisher 3 Domination for the Bombers. IC is for real… I thought so. Surprised SJF didn’t keep it close at the very least.

Aurora 12 – Concordia Wisconsin 10 The Midwest Conference is shaping up in an interesting way. Aurora is still undefeated in conference, and seems to be on a collision course with Carthage, the only other team without a loss in conference.

RIT 13 – Ithaca 6 Solid Upstate battle, but RIT is looking to be in the Top 5 of all teams, while Ithaca is a 8-15 team. There does seem to be a definite cut off after the Top 7 or 8 teams right now.

Greensboro 15 – Ferrum 10 Two solid up and coming programs in the mid-atlantic region. Seems like these two are developing a competitive rivalry!
