Welcome to the D3 Report. Got a topic you want covered? Have photos to share? Or info that might be of interest? Hit us up and put D3 in the subject line to get on our radar. I would have gotten Week 3 up sooner, but playing lacrosse in New Orleans took its toll! The Shakerz won it all and had a number of D3 guys (especially Tufts) on their roster.
We’ll start off with some of the big story lines, because why not?
There are a number of undefeated teams right now, and that trend should continue for another couple of weeks, when some big time match ups will give at least some of the current undefeated teams a blemish. Someone has to lose!
WAC is back! It sure seems that way now that the Shoremen are 2-0 with convincing wins over Goucher and W&L. They doubled up both teams and proved they can score, and play defense. Jeff Shirk has them primed and looking good so far. Plus they were 1980s style mesh jerseys. Props for that.
Adrian’s big game. I was thinking that Adrian could be a tough game for anyone this year, but they only beat Kean by 1, and Aurora by 3. Their game with St. Lawrence will tell us a lot more, but so far it looks like Adrian might still be a couple years away. Wins are wins, but ideally you want to win by a bit more if you’re going to be considered a real up and comer.
Sewanee is 3-0. With two wins over NCAC teams (Kenyon and Wittenberg), Sewanee is looking like a contender in the Southern Conference. Keep an eye on Marty Watters and this relatively young program in Tennessee.
It’s NESCAC time! Bates has played a game, and they lost 12-11 to Skidmore. Other than that, no NESCACs have played. That all changes on March 9th when most teams are in action. Some (like Amherst, Hamilton, Wesleyan, and Bates) will play games on March 9th and 10th. Have to love that late February start date!
